Conquer Fears and Phobias

Hypnosis NH Fears & Phobia under the covers

Fear is a natural, normal, primitive emotion hard wired in our brain for survival, it involves a powerful biochemical, mind-body response that alerts us to the presence of a dangerous threat, physical or psychological.

Phobias are intense, often persistent fears of specific objects, situations, or things that are illogical and excessive. But whether or not the fears are illogical doesn’t in any way subdue the alarm that is experienced by both adults and children when cued by the presence or anticipation of the feared object or situation.

Conscious verses subconscious

All habits and routines emotions, feelings and core beliefs are not held in our awareness, our logical conscious mind but in our subconscious mind, the part of the mind that controls nearly every choice we make. It is also this part of the mind that controls our autonomic nervous system. Once the old fear is recognized by the subconscious mind it kicks in the fight or flight response…automatically, without our conscious control.

Negative learned hypnosis

Usually, though not always during childhood when the mind doesn’t have the full capacity to truly judge or analyze a situation, a child’s mind can create real or irrational fears, which can leave negative imprints in the brain (subconscious). As an adult you may still be responding to those old forgotten memories because subsequent events that reminds the subconscious of the original event can now trigger anxious or fearful feelings. This is because the subconscious mind learns to make associations. Fear originating in adulthood tend to increase once the triggering event is re-experienced.

Learned phobias and fears are forms of negative hypnosis

Phobias produce feelings that are exactly the same as any other form of anxiety. However, the phobic response is much more extreme. You may have a phobia for many reasons. One may be that you learned it from a parent when you were young and highly suggestible. For example, a child seeing and hearing her father shrieking at the sight of a tiny spider crawling on the wall. The daughter learned that if Dad’s afraid of a spider I should be too!

The phobia may be a product of a nasty experience. Such as being attacked by a dog which can lead a person to fear all dogs. You’re a phobia may be built up over time. Example would be experiencing years of turbulence when you flew and now you’ve developed a phobia of flying despite the fact that nothing happened to you during all those years while flying.

You could have even learned to be afraid of someone you only saw watching TV. I have had clients afraid of going into the ocean just by once watching a scary movie about sharks!

An example of how is hypnotherapy used to treat fears, anxiety and phobias

Let’s say you have a fear of flying. During a hypnosis session, the hypnotherapist will, with your permission, guide you into a very deep state of relaxation, it is the exact state of mind as a deep state of meditation, In this ultra relaxed state the mind becomes more open to suggestions. Then the hypnotherapist will give you what’s known as a “posthypnotic suggestion”. They may suggest to you that the next time you fly you will feel calm, safe and in control as you fly to and from your destination. The subconscious mind will NEVER accept a hypnotic suggestion that will harm you in any way!

Hypnosis can stop your habitual response to fear forever

Hypnosis not only eradicates the present fear but eliminates the source of the fear or phobia where it is stored in the subconscious so it will never come back again.
